Waste Restriction Guidelines

Last updated on: Feb 22, 2026

Introduction

Grab & Go Removals is a licensed waste carrier operating in full compliance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011. While we handle a wide range of residential and commercial waste, there are certain items and materials that we are unable to collect under our standard service, or that require specialist handling and prior arrangement.

Please read these guidelines before booking. If you are unsure whether we can collect a specific item, contact us before your appointment and we will advise you accordingly.

What We Can Collect

Our standard service covers the collection and responsible disposal of the following:

  • General household waste and unwanted items
  • Furniture and bulky items (sofas, beds, wardrobes, white goods)
  • Garden waste including soil, turf, branches, and green cuttings
  • Construction and light demolition waste (bricks, timber, plasterboard — see note below)
  • Office furniture, equipment, and general commercial waste
  • WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) — subject to prior confirmation
  • Cleared contents from full house or office clearances

Restricted Items — Prior Arrangement Required

The following items can be collected by Grab & Go Removals but require prior disclosure and arrangement at the time of booking. Additional charges may apply:

  • Hazardous household waste — including paint, solvents, oils, and aerosols
  • WEEE items — fridges, freezers, TVs, monitors, and other electrical appliances
  • Gas canisters and cylinders — must be confirmed empty prior to collection
  • Large quantities of construction waste — please disclose volume at time of quoting

Items We Cannot Collect

The following items fall outside the scope of our standard licensed service and cannot be collected under any circumstances:

  • Asbestos — asbestos and asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) must be handled and disposed of by a specialist licensed asbestos contractor. We do not collect asbestos in any form.
  • Clinical or medical waste — including sharps, contaminated dressings, and pharmaceutical waste. This requires specialist clinical waste disposal.
  • Radioactive materials — these require a specialist disposal licence beyond our scope.
  • Explosives and ammunition — contact your local police or a licensed specialist for safe disposal.
  • Uncontained liquid waste — including large volumes of chemicals, sewage, or industrial effluent.
  • Tyres (in large quantities) — a small number may be accepted; please confirm at time of booking.

Why These Restrictions Exist

UK waste management law is strict, and for good reason. Certain materials pose significant risks to public health, the environment, and the safety of our team if not handled correctly. Fly-tipping and illegal waste disposal carry serious consequences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, including unlimited fines and prosecution. As a licensed carrier, Grab & Go Removals takes its legal and environmental obligations seriously and will only ever dispose of waste through approved, licensed facilities.

We will never knowingly collect waste that we are not authorised to handle. If we arrive at a job and discover undisclosed restricted items, we reserve the right to refuse collection of those specific items. A call-out charge may still apply.

Eco-Responsible Disposal

For all waste we do collect, our commitment is to minimise landfill wherever possible. Items in usable condition are diverted to reuse and donation partners. Recyclable materials are sorted and directed to the appropriate recycling streams. We provide a Waste Transfer Note on request for every collection, giving you legal confirmation that your waste has been transferred to a licensed carrier.

Not Sure? Just Ask

If you have an item you're unsure about, don't assume — contact us before booking. We'll let you know whether we can collect it, whether specialist arrangements are needed, or point you toward the right disposal route if it falls outside our scope.
